Shiney Ahuja Gets Bail In Rape Case
Shiney Ahuja

Nearly a month after a trial court convicted him for raping his maid, Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja was granted bail by the Bombay High Court today (April 27th). The actor was told to pay a bond of Rs. 50,000 and will not be allowed to leave the country without permission. Shiney was convicted by the sessions court in Bombay on 30th March, 2011 following which he had filed an appeal in the High Court.

In June 2009, Shiney Ahuja’s maid had accused the Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi star of raping her. The actor was arrested on June 14, 2009. The trial court had sentenced Shiney to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment, relying on circumstantial evidence, though the maid who had accused Shiney of raping her had turned hostile during the trial. The trial court ruled that evidence such as the positive DNA report, medical evidence of intercourse and scratch marks on Shiney’s hand were sufficient to prove the actor’s culpability.
