Director Aanand L Rai has penchant for offbeat and ambitious stories, which can be clearly seen in his filmography from Tanu Weds Manu to Raanjhanaa, to his upcoming directorial Zero, which stars Shah Rukh Khan as a dwarf, along with Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and even a cameo by Salman Khan.

In a recent interview with The Quint, the director-producer opened up about the film, the reason behind the name and much more.

Putting an end to all rumours, the director talked about Salman’s cameo and the camaraderie shared by him and Shah Rukh. “I enjoyed working with the two of them. Shah Rukh and Salman together were a house on fire,” he said. “More than directing them, it was just fun watching the two of them. I was like a fanboy there. Both have great energy on the floor and they are such lovable people, that everyone must see them together.”

When asked about his experience working with Shah Rukh Khan, he said, “He is a great actor and a great human being. We clicked from day one. We had a great understanding and he is a great team member. More than an actor he is like a big brother here, taking care of lots of things. We have emotional support for each other and more than anything else, we are having fun! What he likes coming from me is when I say, ‘Mauj aani chahiye!’ He loves that phrase. And I promise Zero is full of mauj.”

Talking about the title of the film, he said, “In this film I wanted to celebrate a Zero, I wanted to celebrate the incompleteness in people. There is this uncanny beauty to it and we all are human beings and that’s where Zero comes from.”

Zero is all set to release on Christmas 2018.
