Veteran character actor Mac Mohan, known most for his portrayal of Samba in Sholay, passed away in Bombay on the evening of May 10. The actor, also the uncle of actress Raveena Tandon, was battling cancer for a long time.
Starting his career with Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat, Mac Mohan went on to act in a couple of hundred films. Amitabh Bachchan, who had worked in Mac Mohan in many films, recalled, “He was a soft hearted gentle soul. His frail body defeated the strength of his character and his kind nature.”
“He will be missed and remembered for many reasons, but perhaps the most for his reference in the film Sholay as Samba,” Bachchan added.
