Rani Mukerji, who was earlier been considered to play the titular role, has reportedly refused Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Begum Samru citing date issues.
Dhulia who has made ace films like Paan Singh Tomar has been slogging on the hefty script of Begum Samru. It is a period film that depicts the life of Samru, a 18th century courtesan, who rose to become the leader of Saradhna, near Meerut. Samru had a crucial role to play in freedom agitation against the British during late 18th and early 19th century.
Tigmanshu Dhulia is now contemplating on signing in Kareena Kapoor in the titular role. Also actress Chitrangada Singh who is known to have a flair for off beat roles has shown her interest in working in the project.
However, for Rani Mukerji it can be assumed as an unwise decision given that her career has been on a downhill for quite sometime now and none of her projects could revive her stardom back with the same blaze.
