Ram Gopal Varma is on a roll on Twitter, taking potshots at filmmakers from the industry, right from Mani Ratnam to Shah Rukh Khan. The director tweeted on June 21, “Let’s all hope and pray that Ra.One (Climax Shot) does not become SRK Ki Baarish.” Ramu was referring to Shah Rukh Khan’s under-production superhero movie.
It all began with Ramu tweeting that not only did he have to deal with his own flop movies; he also had to bear comparisons to his super-flop film, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. He continued his string of hilarious tweets by adding the suffix of his movie to other flop films, “For Tashan they said it’s Aditya Ki Aag. For Chandni Chowk To China they said Akshay Ki Aag. For Kites they said Hrithik Ki Aag and now it’s Mani Ki Aag.”
What’s endearing about all this twitter-diarrhoea is that Ramu doesn’t just make good-natured jokes about others’ films; he made them at his own expense. The filmmaker even remarked that his version of Sholay had become more famous than the original and had set a benchmark for dud films.
His potshots at directors Mani Ratnam and Karan Johar were tongue-in-cheek. “I want to remake Raavan and I want to request Mani to remake (Ram Gopal Varma Ki) Aag. I got a better idea…I will make My name Is Raavan and Mani should make Raavan Ki Kurbaan.”
The icing on the cake, of course, was his comment on Shah Rukh’s film Ra.One. We’re waiting for more from Ramu!
