Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s cult film Khoobsoorat is being remade with a tinge freshness in Khoobsurat. At the film’s trailer launch director Shashank Ghosh explained that this edition is starkly different from the earlier one. He said, “Khoobsurat is a step forward. While the earlier film was a clash of cultures, here we have elaborated further the concept into building on the romance.”
Sonam Kapoor, who plays the first Disney heroine in Bollywood, added, “If there is any character in my career so far that is so close to who I really am, it is Mrinalini. This is me absolutely exposed, sans any filter. There are very few films which have the wholesome vibe, said something with a message and still all fun. A good film is not always be dark and death with a macabre feel. Good films can also be about fun and still be breezy. Human values and looking forward in life hasn’t changed much and happiness is relevant even today. And cinema is my happy place. Khoobsurat is an ode to Hrishikesh Mukherjee films.”
Pakistani actor Fawad Khan who is known for his tele-serials primarily spoke at length about the warmth he was meted with when he was working on the film. On being asked whether he has taken cues from the classic film, he replied, “This movie is different and fresh take on the old classic film. This is a completely different zone but there was very little to be taken from that film as my character is very different from Rakesh Roshan’s.”
Producer Rhea Kapoor explained that Fawad was the perfect cast for the film. She said, “Vikram has to be effortless but committed. He was so naturally the Prince Charming.”
Khoobsurat is gearing up for a 19th September release.
