Nila Madhab Panda’s I Am Kalam won the viewer’s choice award at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA). “I have never been praised so much for my acting by Americans, Indians, media, critics and my son Sanjay Grover,” said an emotional Gulshan Grover, who also stars in the film. ‘I Am Kalam’ also had the honour of opening this year’s film festival.
Executive Director of IFFLA Christina Marouda said, “The most gratifying thing is showing independent Indian filmmakers people would not otherwise see. The Bollywood stuff is great, but I love having first-time filmmakers who go on to make films that open the fest years later.”
Vikramaditya Motwane’s Udaan bagged the Best Narrative Feature, Sonali Gulati’s I Am won the Best Documentary Feature and the Best Short honours went to Rakesh Chaudhary’s The Eclipse of Taregna.
