The lockdown that followed Novel Coronavirus has put filmmakers in a spot where the losses are haunting them. In this case many might have to release their films digitally. Talking about the same filmmaker Shoojit Sircar whose Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo was ready for release on April 17, revealed that he is open to consider the release of the film on digital platform.
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan, Gulabo Sitabo has been in the making for over a year now and is ready. But the pandemic has been postponing dates for everyone. Shoojit Sircar in an interview opened up on how he wants to release Gulabo Sitabo on big screen but he is open to release it on digital if need be.
In a chat with Mumbai Mirror, Shoojit said,“As a filmmaker, I’d want to see my film open in the theatres, but the situation today is unlike anything anyone had ever experienced. So, I’m open to a digital release if need be, but we will take a decision after May 3.”
Meanwhile, Shoojit in the pipeline also has Vicky Kaushal’s Sardar Udham Singh scheduled for January 2021 release. The film has already finished filming and is now on the post production stage. But Shoojit is very sure that it will be releasing on the big screen because he wants audience to experience it.
He said, “Since it is scheduled for January 2021, we are not thinking about it right now. I’d like a film like this to be a big screen experience. I have lived with this dream for so long that when we were shooting at Jallianwala Bagh, I had tears in my eyes.”
However, the shuffle of releases between big screens and digital will be on for a while. Recently we saw the speculations that Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi Bomb will be releasing on Disney Plus Hotstar.
