Ram Gopal Varma attempted it with “Aag” in 2007 and failed. A remake of the 1975 Bollywood cult classic “Sholay” is generally a bad idea, according to actor Akshay Kumar, who feels he would never be able to reprise any character from the Ramesh Sippy directorial.
“Sholay”, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, is turning 40 on this Independence Day.
At a press conference of “Brothers”, Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra, was asked if he would like to be a part of a “Sholay” remake.
To which he said, “’Sholay‘ cannot be remade. It would be injustice, so don’t even think about it. And if I am asked to play a role in the remake, it’s impossible. The way it has been made, it would be injustice to portray (the characters) the same way.”
Even Sidharth said, “I love the star cast, the scenes… it is a film which has lived for 40 years and even when we watch it today, we thoroughly enjoy it.”
Meanwhile, the actors are gearing up for “Brothers” which is directed by Karan Malhotra, the movie, also features actors Shefali Shah and Jackie Shroff in supporting roles. The movie will hit the big screens this Friday.
