One is a leading Indian comedian, the other a sexy supermodel. Cyrus Sahukar and Lisa Haydon talk about how they landed their parts in Aisha and some funny experiences in an interview with Komal Nahta on ETC’s Bollywood Business.
How did you become a part of ‘Aisha’?
Cyrus: Rhea (Kapoor) was around the sets during the shooting of Delhi-6. After a few months, she told me about her venture and asked me to read the book ‘Emma’ but I fell asleep after a few pages. I thought I would rather read the script. When I finally read it, I couldn’t take my hands off it. I like the writing style of Manu Rishi and Ritu Bhata. My character Randhir Gambhir is very unlike me. He’s from an affluent family in west Delhi. He’s very naïve; comical but not funny.
Lisa: I was model and was in a coffee shop at Marriot. Anil (Kapoor) was around and said hello. The next day his casting director called. From there it took a year for the whole script to be finalised. My role, Aarti Menon, is the business partner of Abhay Deol. She isn’t born rich, but she has worked hard to get where she is. Even I tried to read the book but couldn’t go beyond 3-4 chapters. I prefer the movie Emma.
Did you have any apprehensions about working with newcomers, Ira Dubey and Amrita Puri?
Cyrus: In the last film I did (Delhi-6), everyone was senior to me. In Aisha, everyone is young. There were only three men in the film surrounded by girls. The girls had their own obsessions. Lisa had the best chocolates and biscuits and always hid them. Ira (Dubey) kept serving tea to everyone, no matter what!
Lisa had the best chocolates and biscuits and always hid them.
Lisa: I never really thought about it as ‘working with newcomers’. I got a really nice vibe and energy. Everyone was really helpful on the sets. Sonam was always there if I needed any help with my diction or my lines.
Are you going to take on acting as a full-time job?
Cyrus: I want to be part of something special. I’m writing a mocumentary. I want to do interesting things. I’m already doing radio, TV and films. I’m producing my own shows now. I hope I can have the ability to make my own film some day.
Lisa: I always wanted to be an actor. I think I’d like to focus on acting but currently I’m juggling acting and modeling. I’m working on my Hindi; I have diction classes every day. I would love to take up acting full time.
Anil was on the sets for quite some time. It’s good having someone so experienced around.
Was Anil Kapoor frequently on the sets?
Cyrus: Anil was on the sets for quite some time. It’s good having someone so experienced around. But he was only in certain schedules.
What’s your take on the director, Rajshree?
Cyrus: Rajshree Ojha is very funny. I think she’s had this story in her head for quite some time. She had a very clear vision of the film and very non-possessive of it; she allowed inputs from everyone. Oh, and the movie releases on my birthday!
