After the lead stars of any film, the second most important role is of the supporting actors. Unless the supporting cast is strong enough, the story does not excel. Last year, we saw these B-town actresses giving a tough competition to the lead actors of the films with their amazing contribution as supporting actresses.
Here are the nominations for Best Supporting Actress of 2015:
Huma Qureshi has shown some great talent ever since she debuted with Gangs Of Wasseypur. In Badlapur, she essayed the character of Jhimli, a sex worker. Her character had to go through some complex scenes that Huma pulled off quite easily. She proved to be the best choice for her role and hence needs a nomination in this category.
Tabu played a tough cop as well as a grieving mother in Drishyam. Her layered character called for a great deal of experience in the acting. She fit the bill perfectly and performed best in the scenes that required her to be ruthless. Her character was garnered with immense praises.
Lara Dutta managed to tickle our funny bone with her humorous act of a translator in Singh Is Bliing. She was refreshing as the cartoonish interpreter and certainly a highlight in the otherwise boring film. Her look as Emily too was different from her usual.
Ever since Bajirao Mastani was announced, everyone was of the opinion that Priyanka Chopra will be seen in a smaller role, which seemed disappointing. It was only after watching the film that we realized how powerful that little role of Priyanka was. Playing Kashibai in the film, Priyanka stole the show with her layered performance. From being a child-like to a matured lady, her nuanced acting was loved by one and all.
Tanvi Azmi is known for her acting prowess and she was the perfect choice to play the role of Bajirao’s mother in Bajirao Mastani. Her tough act as the widowed mother who stands tall for her traditions and customs was marvelous. She picked up the tone and body language of her character extremely well.
Talvar became one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2015. One of the major reasons for the film’s success was its outstanding cast. Konkona Sen Sharma was seen playing the character of the deceased child, Shruti’s mother, Nutan. From being hideously interrogated to being blamed for killing her own daughter, Konkona’s act of Nutan was par excellence.
