Directors who dared to present us films which were beyond the commercial quotient, received nominations in the Best Director with a Difference category.

Director Meghna Gulzar won in this category for her film Talvar. She received 30.04% votes.

With second highest votes, the audience chose director Ketan Mehta for his film Manjhi – The Mountain Man. Mehta received 23.47% votes from the readers.
