What If Krrish & G.One Unite? Can Bollywood Get Its Own Avengers?

Whoever thought that Superhero vigilantes were a Hollywood mainstay, Bollywood gave its answer quite strong with Rakesh Roshan’s Koi Mil Gaya which further became a franchise with Krrish and Krrish 3. In a country which was bitten by the west bug as kids grew up following action figures such as Batman, Superman and Spiderman, Rakesh Roshan gave Indian cinema its very own superhero. Hrithik Roshan proved to be the perfect choice for this role and it is quite difficult to imagine anyone else in his shoes.

With the first two films, Roshan set the base for his superhero story and it was Krrish 3 which actually went on par with Hollywood when it comes to the visual effects and execution. Even though the film was panned for its storyline and ambiguity existed over its collections the movie did manage to make it to 200 crore club. The makers took a good chunk of inspiration from Hollywood and their efforts certainly need to be lauded. Krrish 3 is exemplary of what potential our film makers have and it could be considered as benchmark for the SFX and high quality graphics that even Bollywood can re-produce.

After Krrish 3 met with some harsh reviews, there has been a lot of speculation over what will the sequel be. It is quite clear that Krrish has become a famous figure and so the sequel needs to take us to the next level of his antics. If observed carefully, even in Hollywood, most superhero franchises have seen a downfall with their sequels considering the story becomes repetitive with newer villains and the superheroes being limited to the jobs of saving their cities. Thus, when a film like Avengers was introduced, where multiple superheroes come together for a mission to save the planet, the level of its reach is much higher than the individual films.

If Bollywood thought of creating such a franchise how will it fare? Imagine if Hrithik Roshan as Krrish and Shah Rukh Khan as G.One were to come together in a film. This could very well be India’s Avengers. Considering that both superheroes have their own distinctive powers, there is much fodder that can be produced with this. Also not many may remember but Abhishek Bachchan too tried his hands at becoming the superhero in ‘Drona‘ and while the film may have been a huge flop, if the character can be reprised in a better manner with a good script, three superheroes in one big banner film is definitely a dream project.

The question is, can Bollywood make superlative dramas with Indian superheroes in the forefront? If such projects are taken up, the film would turn out to be a money-spinner as the fans not only get to see their favorite superheroes but also their favorite stars in one film.
