For last few months, Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma were pretty much in a mood for some partying. Their Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola had been placed as the first major release of 2013 and since it was coming three weeks after this year’s biggie Dabangg 2, it pretty much seemed that the stage was set for the quirky team of Vishal Bhardwaj to make merry. However not any more as there is threat from all quarters.
“The biggest jolt that the film is getting is in the form of Kamal Hassan’s biggie Vishwaroop which is a spy thriller. In fact in terms of budget, scale and grandeur, it is leaps and bounds above ‘Matru…’. Till a few days back it was nowhere in the radar but now with the plans being firmed up, the film’s Hindi version is taking the Imran-Anushka starrer heads on with the release date fixed as 11th January,” informs a trade insider.
Not just that as the film is now not even enjoying a fortnight long run which was earlier expected with Race 2 being two weeks away. All of a sudden, as many as three more films have come into fray and each of them would be releasing a week later.
The trade insider adds, “Collectively, Inkaar, Akaash Vani and Mumbai Mirror would demand good mix of screens in multiplexes as well as single screens. ‘Matru…’ now has to make most of it’s moolah in its first week itself and that too with Vishwaroop as competition. Vishal’s last film 7 Khoon Maaf was a critical as well as commercial disappointment. Hopefully this one better delivers and that too fast.”
