Karthi’s Sardar 2 is also set for a grand theatrical release on September 10. The film is a sequel to the hit Sardar, which was released in theatres in 2022. There is much anticipation for the film. However, days before its release, Soori’s film Mandaadi took the internet by storm with its trailer. The sea-based drama is set to pose strong competition to Sardar 2, as both films are scheduled for release in theatres on September 10.
Sardar 2 vs Mandaadi Advance Collections
Both Tamil films are less than 24 hours away from their release. Despite having the franchise advantage, Sardar 2 is facing tough competition from Mandaadi in advance collections. In fact, Soori’s Mandaadi is leading in advance collections in Tamil Nadu. As of Wednesday morning, Mandaadi had collected 1.4 crore in advance in Tamil Nadu, while Sardar 2 was trailing at 1.08 crore. Meanwhile, in the Telugu states, Sardar 2 has a strong lead at 62 lakh, while Mandaadi has earned 23 lakh.
Karthi vs Soori
While Karthi is the more popular actor and has the franchise advantage, Soori is also an up-and-coming, talented star. Mandaadi is a never-before-seen attempt at a sea drama focusing on a boating competition. The visuals in the trailer have already impressed the audience, and they seem keen to watch the end product. Meanwhile, Sardar 2 is riding high on scale and franchise goodwill. While Mandaadi is winning the opening-day race, its long-term box-office performance will depend on word of mouth.

Karthi’s last film was Vaa Vaathiyaar, which was released earlier this year. The film had a below-average opening of just 1.65 crore net in India. The film ended its run at the domestic box office below 10 crore. Meanwhile, Soori’s last film was the 2025 release Maanam. The film earned 1.75 crore net in India on its opening day and went on to gross 50 crore worldwide. While Karthi is looking for a hit after his last film tanked, Soori is expecting his first 100 crore movie.
