Divya Bharti is one of the few actresses who managed to grab the limelight and success at a very young age. Even though she died 28 years ago under mysterious circumstances, she remains an enigma for many. Before she died, reportedly, was married to Sajid Nadiadwala secretly. Scroll down to know more.
For the unversed, the late actress who is often referred to as the lookalike of Sridevi made her debut in 1990 in a Telugu film, Bobbili Raja. She then made her debut in Bollywood with the film, Vishwatma in 1992. In a span of 3 years, she acted in 21 films. Some old reports even claim that she had as many 30 films lined up for her.
Both Divya Bharti and Sajid Nadiadwala had met each other for the first time on the sets of Shola Aur Shabnam. The two started off as friends but only later did they realise that they have fallen for each other. The two tied the knot on May 10, 1992, in a private ceremony. However, a year later on April 5 Divya had fallen off from her apartment and died. She was only 19 at the time of her death.
While Divya and Said’s love story is known to all not many know that she had kept her marriage a secret from her father. The late actress’ mother once spoke about their secret marriage. In an old interview, as reported by Hindustan Times, Meeta Bharti said, “Sajid used to visit Govinda on the sets of Shola Aur Shabnam for his dates, and he was introduced to Divya. The very day, she asked me, ‘Mom, what do you think about Sajid?’ I said I found him nice. After some days, she asked me if she could marry Sajid. I told her she should ask her father. And her father was against it. He had his own notions and opposed the idea. Once Divya turned 18, one day she called me to tell me that she was marrying Sajid the very day, and wanted me to sign as one of the witnesses. But I told her I would not be able to come unless she informed her father about it.”
Divya Bharti’s father Om Prakash Bharti came to know of their marriage, months after it had been solemnised. Reportedly, she continued to live with her parents, occasionally meeting Sajid Nadiadwala, and her father had no idea about her marriage. He came to know about it only when Sajid visited Divya’s home for Diwali and announced their marriage.
