Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ has given Stephen King’s iconic story a surprising twist, especially when it comes to the ending. Even though Prime Video has given Carrie a modern take, its final episode takes a leap like no other.

Throughout the eight-episode series, we see Carrie struggling with bullying, an abusive mother, and unknown supernatural abilities. However, as the devastating prom night approaches, several mysterious characters come into the picture and suggest more about Carrie’s power than we have seen.

And then arrives the finale, which ultimately connects all the dots and introduces a completely different future for her. So, here’s what the episode really means.

What Does ‘Carrie’s Ending Mean?

Carrie opens with the interviews of the horrifying school prom survivors. While these conversations eventually build towards an investigation, we soon get the hunch that she is not the only one there with supernatural abilities. During the prom, we meet another woman, Margaret White, who comes in to kill her.

While there were three members of a secret organization to protect Carrie, none of them could even face the antagonist. Soon after the infamous blood bucket incident, she finally unleashes her powers, taking down the school and much of Chamberlain. That’s not it; she even hunts down the tormentors and kills each of them.

Lastly, Carrie returns home to confront her mother, partially destroys the house, and leaves Margaret alive but trapped beneath the wreckage. However, instead of collapsing with the house, she leaves the house with Emaline’s help.

How Does Prime Video’s ‘Carrie’ Differ From Stephen King’s?

The Prime Video‘s ‘Carrie’ finale finally confirms that Emaline is real and has good intentions towards Carrie, but can only communicate through astral projections. Although we do not yet have all the details about her, she seems to belong to the secret social group that was saving Carrie.

In the final moments, we see Carrie traveling to an unknown road with Emaline. Emaline explains that she is taking her somewhere safe, away from the people hunting for her supernatural abilities.

The new ending opens up an entirely different direction for the story, unlike Stephen King’s. Maybe a second season could explore her story.
