Khel Khel Mein has taken a low opening at theatres. The film was never meant to take the box office by storm since it was a core multiplex film for the elite urban audiences, which means its business was restricted to major cities. However given the kind of budget that it has been made, even this was going to be decent enough as long as it took the full advantage of the mini-holiday season lasting from Independence Day till Rakshabandhan.
However, even all of that would have been possible had the competition been weaker, or even better, non-existent. While Vedaa was standing in front of it as competition as well, even that would have been manageable since that has its audiences at the mass centres and Khel Khel Mein was aiming for the class audience. However, none had braced up for the impact that Stree 2 would have had on the D day; at least until a fortnight be for release.
Unfortunately, though, this is what happened as Stree 2 went away with the majority of the best screens and prime-time shows, and since the full-fledged advance booking too started for Khel Khel Mein rather late in the day, audience attention had already been diverted. No wonder, despite being well made, the Akshay Kumar led film took a start of just 5.23 crores and that’s below expectations.
