Collen Hoover’s bestseller, It Ends With Us, created quite a hype as soon as its movie adaptation hit the theaters. The book was a massive hit, and hence, the expectations were high for the movie. It did become a box-office success but grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Even before its release, ‘It Ends With Us’ faced a lot of controversies.
For those who do not know, the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni starrer is about Lily, who has witnessed her mother being a victim of domestic violence. She comes across a neurosurgeon named Ryle, and they both get into a relationship. But soon, Ryle’s dominant and aggressive side shows up. The audience was quick to point out how the story romanticizes domestic violence. Hoover clarified that the book is based on her personal experience and that success was a bittersweet experience due to its theme.
Though the whitewashing of emotional abuse and violence has mixed opinions, there was also an alleged feud between It Ends With Us stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Blake is also the movie’s producer, while Justin directed the film. Their lack of public interaction during promotional events further solidified the rumors. Fans also noticed that Hoover and Blake follow all the star cast on social media but not Baldoni.

It is not new for filmmakers to create some internal drama to get people talking about the movie, but we don’t think that might be the case here. With Hoover’s fan base and Ryan Reynolds himself promoting his wife’s film, the box office success was a given. While some feel that Reynolds’s involvement might have caused a power struggle within, others said Baldoni made it hard as a director for the crew to work. Christy Hall, co-producer of the film, shared that Reynolds’ intervention led to a change in script. As per the sources, Blake and Baldoni had massive creative differences, resulting in two different movie cuts. Amid all the controversy, Hoover’s ‘Verity’ and ‘Regretting You’ are also ready for movie adaptation. Stay tuned for further updates regarding the upcoming projects.
