Bollywood and its golden statements lay in the era of the 90s. Not because the stars were difficult to reach but only because whatever they said was less fabricated and filtered since there was no constant moral policing or calling out. Interviews were unabashedly real, and one such interview was when Parveen Babi opened up about Amitabh Bachchan and had some thoughts about his popularity.
An old video has cropped up on the internet where the Shaan actress was seen talking about her co-star in many films. The duo has worked together in many films, including Kaalia, Amar Akbar Anthony, Namak Halaal, Kaala Sona, Kranti, and Kala Patthar.
For the unversed, Parveen Babi died struggling with mental health after she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. It was rumored that she used to believe that Amitabh Bachchan would kill her. Ever since her connection with Bollywood’s biggest superstar, she has been talked about in murmurs.

A video is doing rounds on the internet, which is believed to be Parveen Babi’s last interview on TV before she died in 2005 at the age of 50. In the interview done by Shekhar Suman for his TV show, the anchor casually asked the actress, “What is the biggest joke you have ever heard?”
Reacting to the same, the actress quirkily said, “The biggest joke of the millennium was Amitabh Bachchan being nominated as the star of the millennium superseding Mr. Marlin Brando, Elvis Presley, I mean everybody, you name them.” She was appalled at the fact that despite so many living legends, Mr. Bachchan was awarded the Star of the Millenium award.
However, Parveen ji did not stop there. She further continued sharing about her disbelief and said, “And an even bigger joke was when Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was nominated the 10th most handsome man of the Indian Century. Now, with all due respect, Mr. Bachchan has always been known for his acting, not for his appearance.”
Netizens have reacted to the video. A user wrote, “She was ‘Kangana Ranaut’ before ‘Kangana Ranaut.'” Another comment read, “She was extremely right. Also, AB did a lot of harm to her.” One more comment read, “Dharmendra ji was most handsome at that time, not Amitabh Bachchan; she is absolutely right.”
An irked user commented on various alleged reports about Amitabh Bachchan and wrote, “She’s right. Besides, Amitabh didn’t allow others to grow because he was very powerful. Not many know he has a huge ego. What he did to Kader Khan is known. Rishi Kapoor also said something unpleasant about him in a TV show, which was true. Parveen Babi’s allegations against Amitabh were suppressed, and how he cold-shouldered comedian Mehmood while the latter was hospitalized is not known to many. Mehmood launched the movie Bombay to Goa only for Amitabh and made him a hero when AB was not getting work in the industry. So many stories, but fortunately for AB, all those people are dead today. It’s time we stop worshipping or following many celebrities like him who wear a facade.”
One more user wrote, “She’s right! Amitabh Bachchan looks below average! He just used people all his life & forgot those who actually helped him.” Others argued that there were actors better looking than Amitabh Bachchan. A user wrote, “There was always Shashi Kapoor in the looks department.” One more comment read, “I think Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna were really handsome back then.” Another comment echoed the same thought, “Dharmendra was the OG Greek God! He, along wid Vinod Khanna, was the most handsome man, hands down.”
