Penn Badgley is garnering a lot of praises for his performance in the second season of You. The series is currently streaming on Netflix for the past one week and the audience is blown away with his performance yet again.
In season one, we already go to see how creepy, merciless and inhuman Penn’s character Joe Goldberg is. He is a stalker, a murderer, a conspirer who doesn’t spare people who come in his way of getting something (usually girls). In the second season, there’s more drama with lots of twists and we get more insight into Joe’s life, his vicious brain and his behaviour throughout.
The Gossip Girl actor has always been vocal about how his character Joe is problematic and people should not admire or sympathise with him. Recently, in an interview with Variety, the talented revealed, “Playing Joe is not this terribly enjoyable experience.”
About the makers showing the story on Joe’s point of view even in the second season, Penn Badgley said, “It’s the question we as creators ask, it’s the question that the viewers have to ask themselves. The inevitability seems just that, it’s inevitable. What is he going to do? It’s not a question, what he’s going to do, is it? And yet we find ourselves continually asking it.”
Earlier in June while talking to Variety, the handsome actor had said to all those who admire Joe that how far will people go to forgive an evil white man.
Well, fans appreciate how the actor is aware of how wrong his character and his actions and shouldn’t be celebrated just because he comes across romantic and desirable.
You 2 also stars Victoria Pedretti from The Haunting Of The Hill House who plays his love interest. The actress too received rave reactions for her performance.
