Taapsee Pannu is back with yet another intense film after Assi. This time, she plays a mother who has to face her worst nightmare — losing her child. The film, which draws inspiration from the Mahabharata, tells the tale of a mother who goes to great lengths to save her daughter. But unknowingly, she lands in territories she never ever imagined herself to be in.

In the upcoming Netflix film, Taapsee Pannu plays Bani. Her desperate search for her abducted daughter draws her into a far more dangerous reality than she could have imagined. The fictitious town of Joypurra serves as the backdrop of this thriller. Fear and silence coexist with the enigmatic Behrupiyas, who form an integral part of the town’s cultural fabric. As the investigation begins to unravel unsettling questions, Bani takes matters into her own hands. What follows is a relentless journey through hidden truths, mounting danger and unexpected allies for Bani.

The trailer gives a glimpse of how strong a mother can become when her child is in danger. We see Taapsee Pannu in full-on action mode as she channels a mother’s rage. At the beginning of the trailer, the actress shows her softer side as she plays with her daughter. However, her mood changes to fear and panic when her daughter gets kidnapped. In the moments that follow, we see her gather courage and become fearless as she embarks on her mission to save her daughter. In the trailer alone, this transition in the mother’s emotions plays out beautifully.

Apart from Taapsee Pannu, the film also has Ishwak Singh starring as Gokul, a father grappling with the disappearance of his daughter. He seems to be a great supporting cast member to Taapsee’s Gandhari avatar. Meanwhile, Jatin Sarna plays Kabir, the officer leading the investigation. Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht, and Chhaya Kadam complete the ensemble, each adding a distinct layer to the mystery and intrigue surrounding Joypurra. Directed by Devashish Makhija and written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, Gandhari premieres on September 3, only on Netflix.

What works is that it is not just a mother-daughter emotional story. The trailer promises to explore layers of a world that has not been seen on screen before. There are mysterious elements rooted in a place’s culture. And beneath all of the suspense, peril, and action is a universal story of human choices, consequences, and the extraordinary lengths someone can go to for the one they love most.
