There have been redemption stories – a lot of them! We see the protagonist having a dark past of killing and violence, but is now choosing to stay calm and lead a peaceful life! Now, usually, such protagonists are male! But what if we swap that protagonist with a female? Change that leather-jacket-wearing male hero with a saree-clad daughter-in-law desperately trying to win her family? Here’s when you get Maa Inti Bangaaram!

Maa Inti Bangaaram Movie Review: Script Analysis

Written by Raj Nidimoru (of Raj & DK fame) alongside Vasanth Maringanti and Prahas Boppudi, the story revolves around Suvarna (Samantha Ruth Prabhu). She has a dark, violent past, but all she wants right now is to be accepted by her traditional joint family. She doesn’t know how to chant slokas or cook authentic meals, so she smuggles in food cooked by her best friend to win over her sharp-tongued grandmother-in-law, and her sister-in-law, who is everyone’s favorite bahu already!

But when the shadows of her past arrive, revealing her true self to be Jhansi, followed by an unpredictable villain named Karuna (Gulshan Devaiah), things go totally out of hand! Suvarna drops the kitchen rolling pin and picks up guns yet again to protect her loved ones!

Maa Inti Bangaaram Movie Review: Star Performance

Samantha Ruth Prabhu nails each and every action scene here! She displays immense charm and pure swag while delivering those kicks and punches! The way she balances comic one-liners and her dealing with the situational comedy is winning in the first half! She is the absolute thug in the truest sense!

Gulshan Devaiah as Karuna does not match up. Not because he cannot, but because the script does not give him a chance to do so! He could be the perfect opponent if written well. The supporting cast works in favor of the film! Digant plays the supportive husband with effortless charm, acting as the only hope of sanity amidst the madness.

Maa Inti Bangaaram Movie Review: Direction, Music

The writing in the first half is brilliant. BV Nandini Reddy, It blends situational comedy and family politics and builds the tension about Suvarna’s past beautifully! g tension seamlessly. The satire on domestic expectations placed on women lands with precision without getting preachy for even a second! However, the script stumbles right after the interval. When the actual suspense is revealed, it does not look like something that blows your mind!

BV Nandini Reddy knows exactly how to frame her lead to maximize impact since it is her third collaboration with Samantha. The film has no unnecessary violence! The music and the songs also work in the film’s favor and elevate the narrative!

Maa Inti Bangaaram Movie Review: The Last Word

Maa Inti Bangaaram takes the tried-and-tested commercial route but flips it by flipping the gender of the protagonist, and it wins for this reason! Despite a shoddy second half, the film works solely because of Samantha’s brilliant screen presence! But this one still looks like a missed opportunity. This could have been something so much better!

3 Stars!
