Mothers tend to be protective towards their babies, and Selena Gomez’s mother is no exception. Gomez often faces the criticism of netizens for taking breaks from social media, including Instagram. Selena’s mom, Mandy, in an interview with Elite Daily, defended her daughter’s choice to take time away from social media to improve her mental health. The Calm Down singer has always been an advocate of protecting one mental health at any cost.

Selena Gomez’s mother said, “Whatever time Selena needs, she gives herself. You’re more at ease in your world and living in the moment. It’s so much more peaceful.” She continued, “I can go a week without looking at any social media, and then I’ll get on there and I’ll try to catch up.”

Mandy explained, “We come together, and we plan a movie day; we cook food and just kind of relax and hang out. Then, we all end up falling asleep.” As reports, her most recent social media break occurred when the internet alleged she gossiped about Timothee Chalamet at the Golden Globes awards.

Selena Gomez, previously in an interview with InStyle, addressed the matter and said, “Taking a break from social media was the best decision that I’ve ever made for my mental health.” She also spoke about the unnecessary hate and comparisons that take place incessantly on the internet. She explained, “I’ll have moments where that weird feeling will come back, but now I have a much better relationship with myself.”
