Speaking at a private event in Los Angeles, the Ben and Kate star spilled the tea about a time she went way too far in the audition room. “I got really into it,” she shared. “It was dramatic, and I took my shirt off. And then you didn’t have to do that.” Cue collective secondhand embarrassment.

But the kicker? She’s still cringing about it. “It’s still embarrassing,” Johnson admitted before laughing, “I’m more embarrassed that I just told that story.” Let’s just say she gave the phrase “putting it all on the line” a whole new meaning.

This wasn’t the only audition horror Dakota dished out. During her Madame Web press tour, she dropped another gem about being labeled “pretentious” for simply introducing herself. Shaking hands with the audition crew was enough to spark some drama. “I got told by a creator…the feedback was that I was pretentious because I shook everyone’s hand,” she revealed. “I was like, ‘What?’” Classic overachiever problems.

She’s even joked about the mystery showrunner who gave her that note, cheekily saying, “Oh, I’ve ruined his life.” Dakota might have been called pretentious, but at least she didn’t hold back on the clapbacks.

And if you think those stories are bad, wait until you hear about her time on The Office. Johnson joined the sitcom for its series finale, thinking she’d spend a day or two on set. Instead, she got stuck for two weeks. Her role? Office furniture. “I’m barely in the fucking show,” she quipped to Seth Meyers.

The set dynamics didn’t make things any easier. “There were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years,” she explained. “Some people didn’t speak to each other. And I’m coming in like, ‘So excited to be here!’ No one wanted to talk to me. No one gave a fuck.” Ouch. Most of her screen time involved “faxing things in the background.” Not exactly a career highlight.

Despite these hiccups, Dakota’s Hollywood journey has been wild. From leading the Fifty Shades franchise to starring in critically acclaimed films like Suspiria and The Lost Daughter, she’s proven she can handle awkward auditions and underwhelming guest roles—and come out on top.

What is the moral of the story? Even Dakota Johnson has facepalm-worthy moments. But let’s be honest, she wears them with the same charm she brings to the screen.
