In 2026, Callum Turner is one of the frontrunners in the James Bond race among other popular actors. So, it only feels good to revisit some of his forgotten appearances.
Long before Callum Turner became renowned, he starred in a romantic drama opposite the late Helen McCrory. It’s a three-part series that aired in 2012 and showed the two actors at very different stages of their careers, with McCrory a popular star and Turner a debutant.
In the iconic TV show, ‘Leaving’, Helen McCrory played Julie Ranmore, a married woman with two children stuck in an unhappy marriage. The ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ actor Turner, on the other hand, portrays Aaron Hughes, a man in his early 20s struggling to find direction in life after university. When the duo’s paths eventually cross, the attraction between them becomes evident and kicks off the tale of a complicated romance.

The complicated love story begins at a hotel in Cheshire where Julie works as the event manager. However, organizing romantic events only makes her unhappy because she fails to find any happiness in her marriage. When the 25-year-old Aaron arrives to attend his ex-girlfriend’s wedding with his brother, Julie notices his grief, and the two begin to connect.
Later, when Aaron, aka Callum Turner, takes up the job at the same hotel, the duo starts spending more time together. Soon, Julie gets the spark back in her life, and the friendship starts developing into a full-blown affair. But the problem arises when they try to keep their relationship a secret. And then comes a time when the duo must decide whether they are ready to abandon their future.
While the story has received mixed reviews from audiences, the legendary actor Helen McCrory explained that she was particularly drawn to the unusual romance storyline. She said, “I liked how it didn’t just look at the problem of age difference because we’re used to that now”. According to her, the drama explored the unseen side of romance in an older woman’s life.
Right now, the series carries additional significance after McCrory’s death and Callum Turner’s name being tied to the whole James Bond speculation. Whether or not he becomes 007, the series remains memorable.
