It is reportedly one of the top three biggest hits by Universal at the North American box office. But can it become Universal’s biggest domestic hit by beating Jurassic World? The Nolan-helmed movie collected $3.3 million on its 5th Thursday at the North American box office. It still has a stronger hold than other new releases, dropping just 25.2% from last Thursday at the domestic box office. It completes 35 days in cinemas with over $519.56 million in North American box office collections.

How much more is needed by The Odyssey to become Universal’s biggest hit domestically?

The Odyssey is reportedly Universal’s third highest-grossing film of all time at the North American box office. It is behind Jurassic World and The Super Mario Bros. Movie in Universal’s top-grossers chart. At #1 is Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt, which collected $653.4 million at the North American box office over its lifetime.

The Christopher Nolan-helmed movie still needs a 26% jump at the domestic box office to beat Jurassic World as Universal’s highest-grossing film of all time in North America. According to reports, The Odyssey is tracking to earn between $580 million and $600 million at the domestic box office. Therefore, beating Jurassic World as Universal’s biggest domestic hit seems out of the question.

However, The Super Mario Bros Movie seems to be within its projected range, as it raked in $574.9 million in its lifetime run in North America. To achieve that, The Odyssey needs to land in the high end of the projected range. Globally, the movie has earned around $1.367 billion [via The Numbers] so far, with more to come. The Odyssey was released on July 17.
