The Jason Momoa starrer Street Fighter is tracking to open with record numbers in the video game adaptation franchise. According to early estimates from Box Office Pro, Street Fighter is on track to earn between $30 million and $40 million in its opening weekend in North America. It would be in line with Mortal Kombat II’s $38.5 million debut.

How does it stack up against the other two live-action movies?
As mentioned above, this is the third live-action feature film based on the Capcom video game. The first film was released in 1994, and another one came out in 2009. According to the reports, both films opened below the $10 million mark at the North American box office. The 1994 movie collected $6.8 million in its domestic debut. Meanwhile, 2009’s The Legend of Chun Li raked in just $4.7 million in its opening weekend in North America. Therefore, this upcoming reboot will have the biggest domestic debut of any video game franchise.
What is the film about?
The film follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters as Chun-Li recruits them to compete in the next World Warrior Tournament, where they are forced to confront each other and the demons of their past. Jason Momoa starrer Street Fighter will be released on October 16.
