Nayanthara arrived in theatres for Diwali with the fantasy comedy-drama, Mookuthi Amman 2. The film marked Nayanthara’s fifth release of the year. This was also her second Kollywood film of the year. With this film, she brings back the beloved Goddess she played in the 2020 film, Mookuthi Amman. While the first part, released on OTT, did well, the second part found itself sandwiched between other major releases.
Nayanthara’s fifth film of the year clashed with Suriya’s Scene at the Kollywood box office. At the same time, the Bollywood film Ramayana: Part 1 has been dominating in several regions in India. Due to this crowded release weekend, Nayanthara’s fantasy film took a hit.

Owing to a clash with Suriya’s Scene, the film had a slow start at the box office. On its opening day, the film earned 1.88 crore net in India. On Day 2, the film earned 2.45 crore, a 30.3% increase over its opening-day collection. While this is decent growth, it isn’t a significant increase in numbers for a film made on a big budget. The film’s net total stands at 4.33 crore, which translates to a gross of 5.11 crore.

How Much Does The Film Need To Enter The Safe Zone?
The Nayanthara-starrer, directed by Sundar C, has reportedly been made on a massive budget of 100 crore. At this production cost, the film needs to hit a century at the Indian box office (net). This is probably one of Nayanthara’s most expensive films in which she plays the solo lead. However, at the film’s current pace, it seems unlikely it will achieve this milestone.

The first part of the film, directed by RJ Balaji, was a fantasy comedy. It revolved around a news anchor collaborating with the titular goddess to expose a godman’s fraud. The second part was directed by Sundar C, who co-wrote the film with Venkat Raghavan.
The film follows the story of a queen who sacrifices herself to save her son, the prince, from invading enemies. Mookuthi Amman returns to save the child and confronts a mysterious woman who represents a new evil power.
