Michael, a film based on the life of legendary singer and performer Michael Jackson, is now playing in theaters. Despite a highly positive early response from many critics, a few days back, the Antoine Fuqua-directed musical drama received an underwhelming critics’ score (currently 39%) on Rotten Tomatoes, which might have worried many fans and industry observers. First Biopic To Cross $40M Opening Day Figure
According to box office analyst Luiz Fernando, Michael is performing exceptionally well at the domestic box office and has beaten the opening day figure of $33 million set by Christopher Nolan’s 2023 blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer. Although the final and exact number is yet to be revealed, the Jaafar Jackson-starrer is set to become the first biopic ever to surpass the $40 million mark on its opening day (including previews).
Earns More Than Double Sinners’ Opening Day Collection
Based on the above figures, Michael is expected to have earned more than twice what Michael B. Jordan’s Oscar-winning supernatural horror hit Sinners earned on its opening day in North America ($19.2 million) last year. In fact, just Michael’s opening-day collection is expected to be in the vicinity of Sinners’ entire domestic opening of $48 million.
