Priyadarshan’s 2005 film, Garam Masala, enjoys a cult fan following even after one and half decade of its release. Featuring Akshay Kumar as Mac and John Abraham as Sam, the film has filmmaker’s trademark humour which still holds a special place in the hearts of the viewers.
Speaking about the Garam Masala characters, there’s nothing extraordinary about them. But the way, Akshay, John, Paresh Rawal and others have portrayed them on-screen, is beyond words. Most of the laughter comes for the sequences that take place in Akshay’s apartment. In a true sense, the trio nailed the humour part with their antics.
After so many years, Garam Masala cast seems to be irreplaceable. But what if we say that not John Abraham but another actor was approached for Sam’s character. Yes, you read that right. Initially, Saif Ali Khan was approached to Sam in the film. But due to some unknown reasons, the plan didn’t work out, as per IMDb.
Interestingly, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar had earlier worked together in popular films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Yeh Dillagi. So it would have been no less than a treat for duo’s fans.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Hindustan Times, John Abraham was asked on collaborating with Akshay Kumar for Garam Masala 2. He said, “We (Akshay and I) should do it. Once I mentioned it (the sequel) to him, and he was like, ‘tere ideas acche hai, tu likh’. When I see Garam Masala today, I realise how funny it is. I wish there is part two just for the sake of the audiences. When I think of it from people’s perspective, I think they will really enjoy it.”
