Ajay Devgn is celebrating his 55th birthday on April 2, and Maidaan makers have released the final trailer of the film to mark the occasion. As festivities have already begun after the trailer leaves a huge impact on the audiences, it brings the most important question to the table – Will Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff‘s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan survive this storm at the box office?

Interestingly, Ajay and Akshay have been connected together since their debut films. While we compare their opening films at the box office, we see that Ajay Devgn won the battle despite Akshay having the modeling advantage and arriving months earlier than Ajay.

It was in 1991 that Ajay Devgn made his debut at the box office with Phool Aur Kaante. The film starred Madhoo alongside Ajay, and while he entered the silver screen balancing his two feet on two running bikes, he ruled at the box office.

Ajay Devgn’s Box Office Debut

With his opening film, Ajay earned 10 lakh on day 1, and in total, the film collected 6.5 crore at the box office. Mounted on a budget of 2.5 crore, the film registered a profit of 160%, giving the Maidaan superstar the first blockbuster of his career. The film was released in November 1991.

209.52% Higher Collection Than Akshay’s Debut

Akshay Kumar made his debut at the box office in January 1991 with a film called Saugandh. The film collected 8 lakh on day 1 and, in total, registered 2.16 crore at the box office. Ajay Devgn’s debut earned 209.52% higher than Akshay’s debut film.

The Curious Case Of Phool Aur Kaante

Meanwhile, not many people know that Phool Aur Kaante was supposed to be Akshay Kumar‘s film. In fact, he was doing the film till the day shooting was about to start. However, in one of his interviews, he narrated how Ajay Devgn, snatched the film from him.

Narrating the funny anecdote, he said, “Isne Mujhe Dhakka Maar Diya.” He narrated the incident and said, “I was preparing to go the shoot next day, but then I got a call and was told, ‘Kal se mat aana, koi aur aa raha hai.'”

And guess who came the next day? It was none other than Veeru Devgn’s son Ajay Devgn who made one of the most stunning entries on the silver screen.
