Just a couple of days back, 49 Bollywood celebs including Anurag Kashyap, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aparna Sen and others wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi in which they appealed against the increase in violence and mob lynching in the country.

The letter read as, “Dear Prime Minister, We, as peace loving and proud Indians, are deeply concerned about a number of tragic events that have been happening in recent times in our beloved country.”

The letter also stressed, “Regrettably “Jai Shri Ram” has become a provocative ‘war-cry’ today that leads to law and order problems, and many lynchings take place in its name. It is shocking that so much violence should be perpetrated in the name of religion! These are not the Middle Ages! The name of Ram is sacred to many in the majority community of India. As the highest Executive of this country, you must put a stop to the name of Ram being defiled in this manner.”

Now 62 Bollywood celebs including Kangana Ranaut, Prasoon Joshi, Vivek Agnihotri have written an open letter against the selective outrage.

A part of the letter shared by ANI reads as, “To us, the undersigned, this document of selective outrage comes across as an attempt to foist a FALSE NARRATIVE… to negatively portray Prime Minister Modi’s untiring efforts. The signatories of the ‘open letter’ have, in the past, kept silent when tribals and the marginalised have become victims of Naxal terror, they have kept silent when separatists have issued dictates to burn schools in Kashmir, they have kept silent when the demand for dismembering India were made…”

Speaking about the same, Kangana told ANI, “We are a part of a major shift, things are changing for betterment of the nation and few people are rattled by this. Common people have chosen their leaders, ones who disregard people’s will are the ones who have no respect or consideration for democracy.”

Prasoon Joshi’s statement reads as saying, “They (49 people who wrote to PM Modi) seem hell bent to portray that there is deliberate wrongdoing prevalent- thereby dishonestly creating a false narrative.”

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut starrer Judgementall Hai Kya has released in the cinemas today. The film also stars Rajkummar Rao in lead and also Amyra Dastur, Amrita Puri and Jimmy Sheirgill.
