The Lion King did superb business at the Box Office in its first week as 81 crores came in. This is an excellent number considering the fact that first and foremost it is a Hollywood import and secondly it is an animation film. Still for the film to enjoy such patronage in India is nothing less than phenomenal.

The film should do well in the second weekend as well and that should take it past the 100 crores mark. That would make it second Hollywood animation film to achieve this feat in India after The Jungle Book and incidentally both have the same director.

The film is a clear hit and moving towards the superhit status as 150 crores lifetime is pretty much achievable. There are two new releases this week but that shouldn’t make much of a difference to The Lion King since it is the only one targeting kids and they will bring their parents and family members along.
