It was back on Eid, 5th June, when Salman Khan and Ali Abbas Zafar’s much hyped film Bharat had hit the screens. The film took an excellent opening and had a good extended five day weekend. Now more than five weeks after the biggie’s release, Bollywood would be seeing its first big ticket arrival in the form of Hrithik Roshan and Sajid Nadiadwala’s Super 30.
When it comes to the superstars, 2019 has seen Salman Khan [Bharat], Akshay Kumar [Kesari], Ajay Devgn [Total Dhamaal, De De Pyaar De], Ranveer Singh [Gully Boy] and Varun Dhawan [Kalank] arrive with their films. These were also some of the films that were drawn up as some of the most awaited of the first half of 2019.
In the midst of it all also came Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh and Vicky Kaushal’s Uri – The Surgical Strike which weren’t really hot on the list of the most anticipated releases of 2019. However, they emerged as All Time Blockbusters no less by not just opening but also sustaining well.
However, what is also of utmost importance is the arrival of big ticket releases where one keenly anticipates huge entertainment that also leads to great commercial gains. Considering Super 30 has names like Hrithik Roshan and Sajid Nadiadwala attached to it, one expects the right combination of both, something that should work for a large segment of audiences.
After all, Hrithik Roshan has been a superstar to reckon with and though he has been delivering successes [Kaabil, his last release, was a 100 Crore Club entrant], one is waiting for a real big one to be coming from him. On the other hand Sajid Nadiadwala is a name attached to big screen entertainers like Housefull and Baaghi franchise, and while he is backing something relatively niche as Super 30, it is his conviction in the subject that has made the film special for him.
The team so far has done well to ensure that there is good visibility around what Super 30 has to offer. Come Friday and it would be known to one and all how ‘super’ does the film indeed turn out to be.
