When director Meghna Gulzar roped in Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan for her upcoming film, the excitement was at its peak. The filmmaker is known for her craft and for presenting true-life stories in an engaging manner. This, coupled with two of the finest talents of Indian cinema, was definitely an interesting prospect. This is the first time Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran have shared the screen.

The makers of Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film have unveiled its trailer. And the trailer is engaging from the get-go. Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran play cops who have opposite ideas of serving justice. The actress plays a calm-headed investigator who believes in working within the law, while Prithviraj’s cop avatar believes that every crime deserves its own punishment.

The trailer for Daayra shows the actors shine in very restrained performances as they go about their duties of solving crimes. At the center of the story is the case of a missing girl. At one point, a police officer tells Prithviraj Sukumaran that in 9 out of 10 cases, the girls just come back home. “What about the one case?” asks Prithviraj in return.

But the film is not just about the case. This is not a regular whodunit. Rather, it is about working within the framework of law and upholding a moral compass. Prithviraj and Kareena represent two sides of justice and operate in totally different ways. The trailer itself is engaging, as we see the two actors working on a single case.

Interestingly, Daayra is based on true events, like Meghna Gulzar’s previous films Raazi and Talvar. It will be interesting to see how the filmmaker presents the moral compass of a police officer who gets very invested in a case, especially one as sensitive as a juvenile committing a crime of violence against a woman.

One of the standout elements from the trailer is Kareena Kapoor Khan‘s charm. The actress puts on a restrained, mature act as a cop who believes in working within the framework of the law. It also seems quite different from what she has done recently. The trailer also offers glimpses of the wider ensemble, with powerful performances by Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljeet Singh, Sandeep Kulkarni, and Trupti Khamkar. Alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, they bring added emotional depth to a story shaped by conflicting perspectives, difficult choices, and the consequences of decisions made.
