Top Gun: Maverick is one of the most loved movies of 2022. The Joseph Kosinski directorial stars Tom Cruise as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, Miles Teller as Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, along with Jon Hamm, Jennifer Connelly, Lewis Pullman, Val Kilmer, Monica Barbaro and Ed Harris. It is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun. After two years after its release, the film’s production company, Paramount Pictures, has landed in legal trouble. Actor Barry Tubb, who played LTJG Leonard “Wolfman” Wolfe in the film, has sued the production house.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Barry Tubb is suing the studio for using his image in Top Gun: Maverick. He filed the complaint on Wednesday in California. His complaint mentions that Paramount Pictures didn’t take his permission to use his likeness in the sequel. Barry referred to a scene when Hangman and Coyote learn that Rooster Bradshaw (Miles Teller) is the song of the late Goose (Anthony). During that scene, they see a picture featuring Barry’s character Wolfman and Maverick, Iceman and Goose.
The Top Gun actor also mentioned that the makers changed the actual photo of the actors. It was a behind-the-scenes shot from the first film. So, any claim of ownership over the image has been ruined because of these changes. Barry Tubb’s complaint further that Paramount Pictures never reached out to the actor or got his consent to use the picture in the sequel.

“The original contract signed by the plaintiff and Paramount did not contemplate the use of his image beyond the original Top Gun or in promotions related to Top Gun: Maverick; a sequel not contemplated at the time of the original contract and not released until 2022, almost four decades after the original Top Gun,” reads the complaint.
The report mentions that Barry Tubb is asking for compensatory and punitive damages. The actor also wants a trial by jury over this matter. On the other hand, Paramount Pictures and Tom Cruise have not reacted to this matter.
