Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani’s latest film, Last Man In Tower, had a quiet release in theatres. The film did not have much pre-release buzz owing to a lack of promotion. However, this film is headlined by a fine cast but fell short of generating buzz. The film is based on Aravind Adiga’s book of the same name.

How Much Did Last Man In Tower Earn At The Box Office On Opening Day?

The film’s narrative is set in Mumbai and addresses the city’s redevelopment issue. However, with almost no buzz or awareness of the film’s release, its box office numbers have reflected this. The film earned just 3 lakh net on its opening day. Unless the film receives strong word-of-mouth, it will fail to survive past the opening week.

Opens Below Governor

Manoj Bajpayee’s recent releases have mostly been direct-to-OTT releases. While he is one of the finest actors in the country, his box-office streak has been subpar. His last theatrical release was Governor, which was released earlier this year. The film earned just 1.1 crore net in India. Facing direct competition from Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, and the horror sequel Haunted 3D, Manoj Bajpayee’s film surrendered.

Now, Last Man In Tower has given tough competition to Governor in the lowest-openings-of-the-year category. The film has probably seen the lowest opening of any Bollywood film this year. While the critical reception for the film has been positive, it remains to be seen whether it translates into box office numbers in the coming days.

More About Last Man In Tower

Directed by Ben Rekhi, the film follows a retired teacher, played by Manoj Bajpayee, who is settled in Mumbai. He stands firm in his convictions as his community, including Mrs Puri, makes compromises for a new opportunity, creating tension with those he has known for years. The film’s writing credits have been attributed to Aravind Adiga, Juhi Chaturvedi, and Sooni Taraporevala. The film also stars Divya Dutta in a pivotal role.
