Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Onam release, Khalifa, has seen a consistent dip at the box office. The film was released in theaters on August 20 amid much anticipation and hype. The film had a great start at the box office. However, it could not sustain box-office success after receiving poor word-of-mouth. Scroll ahead to read the detailed opening weekend box office report of the film!

How Much Did Khalifa Earn In 4 Days At The Box Office?

The film earned 5.35 crore net on its opening day in India. It marked the second-biggest opening of Prithviraj’s career, behind Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life. However, with poor word of mouth and a clash with Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, Prithviraj’s film dropped by 55%. The film has wrapped its 4-day opening weekend with a net total of 11.9 crore, which amounts to a gross of 14.04 crore. Overseas, the film collected 2 cr on day 4, taking its total overseas gross to 16.25 cr so far. This pushes the worldwide gross collection to 30.29 crore.

Khalifa has been affected by poor word of mouth and the excellent reviews of its contender, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit. While Nivin Pauly’s film released a day after Khalifa, its opening weekend total stands at 20.85 crore, which is 75% more than the latter.

Khalifa Trails Aadujeevitham By 60%

Khalifa was pegged as Prithviraj’s grand comeback after two back-to-back failures. His last hit as a lead actor was Aadujeevitham in 2024. After his directorial Empuraan, starring Mohanlal in the lead, the actor had two back-to-back flops: Vilayath Budha and I, Nobody. Aadujeevitham also had an extended opening weekend, earning 30.3 crore net. With this, Khalifa is trailing Aadujeevitham by 60% in the opening weekend comparison.

More About Khalifa

Directed by Vysakh, Khalifa reunites the filmmaker with Prithviraj for the first time since Pokkiriraja (2011). The film was considered a strong contender for an Onam release. However, the film is headed for a box office disappointment and may end up as Prithviraj’s third consecutive failure.
