Forgotten Island, an animated fantasy comedy based on Filipino folklore, is set to be released worldwide this weekend. The movie will, however, not turn heads with its opening-weekend box-office collection in North America. Nor will it grab the #1 spot in the domestic rankings with its debut weekend collection, as Avengers: Endgame Encore releases in theaters. Keep scrolling for the deets.
It is set in the 1990s in the Philippines and was directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. It has been produced by DreamWorks Animation, featuring voices of  H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Ronny Chieng, and Lea Salonga. The animated movie has debuted with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing this article.
Forgotten Island’s opening weekend projection in North America
According to Variety’s report, Forgotten Island is aiming to earn decent numbers at the North American box office in its opening weekend. The animation is tracking to earn between $15 million and $17 million in its opening weekend at the box office in North America. It is expected to earn the #4 spot in the domestic rankings.

Forgotten Island is nowhere near the #1 spot in the domestic rankings. The crown is expected to be achieved by Avengers: Endgame Encore as it is tracking to earn between $25 million and $28 million in its reissue opening weekend at the North American box office. The second place is potentially reserved for Resident Evil, which is in its second frame. There are also a few more new releases, including Primetime and The Heart of the Beast.
What is the film about?
The film follows best friends Jo and Raissa as they stumble upon a mysterious portal that transports them to the fantastical island of Nakali, where they encounter magical creatures from Filipino folklore and must face the dreaded Manananggal. When they discover that their memories of each other are the price of returning home, the duo must find a way off the island before they forget their friendship forever. Forgotten Island will be released on September 25.
