Box Office Report: Neerja Has A Very Good Week One

Neerja has turned out to be a solid HIT. The film took a good opening, escalated very well over the weekend, and then sustained superbly over the weekdays. The appreciation continued to pour in and audience footfalls were consistent right through the week. As a result, the film brought in 35.32 crore, which is a very good number. In fact it is the second best of the year so far and just like Airlift, what makes the success of this Ram Madhwani directed film even more important is that it has scored well amongst the audience despite its niche and offbeat theme and treatment.

This is how Week One collections of films released so far look:

Airlift – 83.5 crore
Neerja – 35.32 crore
Ghayal Once Again – 33.25 crore
Wazir – 29.95 crore
Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 – 29.65 crore

Moreover, for Sonam Kapoor too the film has turned out to be a notable success. Neerja is standing tall amidst other female centric films that have released over the years. This is how Week One collections of these films have looked:

Mary Kom – 46 crore
Piku – 41.42 crore
Heroine – 36.5 crore
Neerja – 35 crore
Mardaani – 23 crore
Kahaani – 22.75 crore
Alone – 22 crore
Jazbaa – 21.58 crore

Dolly Ki Doli – 19.17 crore

As for Loveshhuda, the film has flopped with collections to the tune of 5 crore. Direct Ishq and Ishq Forever have been washouts.

Sanam Re currently stands at 31.5 crore and would close its lifetime at 32 crore mark.
