Rani Mukerji is hitting all the right chords with her touted comeback in Bollywood. A couple of good movies in 2007 – Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Ta Ra Rum Pum and then, an uncalled break which kind of annoyed her fans.
She was doing special performances in movies like Saawariya & Shah Rukh Khan’s Om Shaanti Om, but she did some of the very forgettable films like Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Dil Bole Hadippa! But what’s to notice here that took a 2-year gap after Hadippa & made a comeback with Raj Kumar Gupta’s No One Killed Jessica.
By doing movies like Talaash: The Answer Lies Within, Mardaani, Hichki & now Mardaani 2, Rani is surely making a statement. A statement such as, “I know where I’m going & I’ll be there.” By doing critically acclaimed movies which also are commercially viable, she’s emerging as the ‘queen of second innings’.
We saw actresses like Preity Zinta, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ameesha Patel & many trying for that second big break to make it but failing to do so. Tabu did well with Andhadhun but what she does next really matters. Rani Mukerji’s Talaash did 93 crores, Mardaani was a hit with 36 crores, Hichki was an overwhelming success in China and crossed 200 crores, and now Mardaani 2 has every aspiration to make it at the box office. During this invitation, she also delivered a flop in Aiyyaa.
With such intelligent script-sense, we are sure Rani has a lot in the store for us! Mardaani 2 has shocked and gripped the nation with its brilliant storyline that is inspired by crimes against women by juveniles. The edge-of-the-seat thriller will see Rani in a race against time to capture a brutal serial rapist who systematically targets women.
Mardaani 2 released in theatres on December 13.
