Ram Gopal Varma stirred a lot of controversy during the release of his debut web series, Guns and Thighs. The filmmaker went on to justify the title, calling it a synonym for power and s*x respectively. But what grabbed eyeballs was his confession that stated he gathered interest in Bollywood post watching Amitabh Bachchan’s guns and Zeenat Aman’s thighs.
Yes, you heard that right! It all happened during the promotion of Guns and Thighs when RGV shared how according to him, in politics, most decisions are taken either under the influence of guns or s*x. While the bold scenes in his web series, starting from the trailer itself, created a lot of noise, Ram Gopal Varma justified it saying it is an individual’s call and that is what ‘freedom of choice and expression’ is all about.
While explaining the title of his web series, RGV in a conversation with IANS said, “As I always say, my prime interest in filmmaking has come from Amitabh Bachchan’s gun and Zeenat Aman’s thighs… So now you know that the title is apt. It’s very symbolic. More than anything else, it is the creative freedom that we get on web series. There is no time limit of two hours that I have to compress my thought (into), keeping the interval and duration of a film in mind. I have also taken liberty on that.”
Furthermore, when the filmmaker was asked why he chose to feature a woman’s bare body instead of a man, “Maybe as a man, I do not want to see a man’s n*de body. I think a woman (film)maker would like to do that. However, I believe a woman’s body is more beautiful than a man’s,” concluded the director.
