Spoilers Alert: This article contains spoilers of Lupin Part 4

Lupin Season 4 Plot summary

The season opens four years after Season 3, with Assane in prison after turning himself in so he could eventually reunite with his family. He is a week from early release and plans to take his son Raoul to Senegal. Then a thief posing as Lupin announces two simultaneous high-profile robberies. The thefts happen, and Assane becomes the prime suspect, so he breaks out of prison and tracks down the copycat.

The copycat is Adèle, who is hunting the fabled treasure of Louis XVI’s French Crown Jewels. She is also Assane’s daughter. Twenty years earlier, Juliette got pregnant by him but never told him, and the baby was sent to an English orphanage after Juliette was told it was stillborn. The treasure is real and guarded by four families called the Guardians, including the Pellegrinis, who will kill to protect it.

Assane decides the only way to end the threat is to steal the treasure. The heist is the season’s centerpiece. They tamper with the mechanism that floods the Seine, forcing the Guardians to move the treasure, then Juliette wears a mask of the corrupt cop Korvin and drives off with it while Assane distracts the guards on a horse.

How Does The Crown Jewel Heist Go Wrong?

Adèle and Raoul never reach the rendezvous. Pellegrini calls and tells Assane to bring the treasure to a location of his choice. Assane’s old enemy is back, and at the handover Adèle is bound with a ticking device taped to her back. Raoul is not scared or tied up, which tells Assane his son is a perpetrator.

Why Does Raoul Turn Against Assane?

Years of broken promises by Assane lead to a sense of abandonment for Raoul. His feelings deepen when he sees Assane bond with Adèle. Raoul reached out to Pellegrini, who agreed to tell him everything in exchange for help leaving a Malaysian prison. At the standoff, Raoul asks his father to choose between him and Adèle. Assane refuses to pick; Raoul takes that as choosing Adèle, and he gets on Pellegrini’s helicopter.

Does Assane Die In Lupin Season 4?

The finale doesn’t give a clean resolution to Assane’s survival. Sofia threatens to shoot Raoul if he doesn’t surrender, and Assane jumps in front of the bullet, taking it in the chest without his metal plate or secret vest. Raoul watches as the helicopter lifts off, and Claire, Benjamin, Adèle, and Juliette rush to Assane’s aid.

What Does The Lupin Season 4 Ending Mean?

The ending turns on a family problem rather than a heist. Assane can spot an impostor and pull off another elaborate heist, but recognizing how badly his relationship with his son has deteriorated proves much harder.
