Ali G: Who Iz I? is Sacha Baron Cohen’s first Ali G film in two decades. It follows the same formula as his earlier work, blending a scripted story with real people who don’t know they’re in a comedy. Its final act is where that blend gets most extreme, and it leaves many viewers asking what was staged and what wasn’t.
Ali G: Who Iz I? Plot
Ali G is broke and living in past glory with his pregnant partner, Julie. When he pawns some of his old belongings, he finds a fax from HBO offering a new season of Da Ali G Show. They fly to Los Angeles, only to learn that the offer expired 22 years earlier.
With nowhere else to turn, Ali becomes a TikTok content creator. His return alarms Nira Cain-N’Degeocello (also played by Baron Cohen), a progressive professor who decides to cancel him for cultural appropriation. Nira confronts him by livestream and promises to destroy him. Meanwhile, a commenter named Rocky claims to be Ali’s father and tells him to call right away.

Ali G: Who Iz I? Ending Explained
What Happens in the Final Act?
The last 30 minutes play like an action film, and the movie uses real people who don’t realize they’re in one. Nira’s plan puts Julie in the hands of a group of right-wing militia volunteers led by the character Erran Morad, who is introduced as an anti-terror expert. Julie gives birth in a scene of gonzo fakery, with the militia men acting as obstetricians.
How Does Ali Get Out of it?
In the final standoff, Morad prepares to kill both Ali and Julie. Ali then recognizes Nira and exposes him as a member of antifa, horrifying Erran and his volunteers. The militia men, who have been led to believe they’re stopping a terrorist, realize they’ve been steered into a scheme organized by someone from the other side of the political divide.
What happenWhat Happens To Ali G & Julie After The Show Offer?
Julie starts a foot fetish-focused OnlyFans, and Ali, now calling himself Ali McG, begins a Scots-inspired version of Da Ali G Show. Nira is arrested. The film also reveals that its direct-to-camera framing is Ali’s son being told his father’s life story.
Who Was “in on it”?
The film makes this explicit. At the end, the screen separates the characters who were “in on it” from those who were “not in on it”: real people who didn’t know who Ali G was or that they were dealing with Baron Cohen. A final credit even thanks talent agent Gar Lester “for not suing.”
What Does The Ending Reveal About Ali G?
The finale is built to be equal-opportunity satire. Ali, the cancel-culture-proof “free speech” hero, the progressive professor who wants to cancel him, and the militia who think they’re saving America are all caught in the same trap. Nobody is the clear winner, and each side ends up exposed by its own certainty.
The epilogue then turns it back on Ali. He doesn’t learn much and doesn’t change. He rebrands, gets another show, and carries on. Ali G is a relic who survives because the culture around him keeps needing someone to argue about.
