Article 370 Box Office Review: Pre-Release Buzz & Impression

Article 370 falls into a zone of The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, where nothing much matters in terms of promotional material apart from the trailer. The trailer that was revealed a couple of weeks ago was power-packed and did its job of raising curiosity. On the ground level, it helped create some sort of undercurrent.

Firstly, the name itself was enough to grab the eyeballs, and the second thing is that the present political scenario in the country suits the film. The kind of subject this Yami Gautam starrer deals with, it was always expected that debates and controversies would occur. Interestingly, that’s working as a main asset of this entertainer.

So, looking at the theme and an effective trailer, it was always felt that Article 370 had a strong chance of surprising everyone with its box office outcome by enjoying similar blockbuster trending like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story. If not up to the aforementioned films’ level, it looks like a package of a surprise hit.

Article 370 Box Office Review: Initial Start, Positives & Negatives

The Yami Gautam starrer has found itself in a sweet spot, and the reason we say so is that today, the national cinema chains (PVR INOX & Cinepolis) and other multiplexes across the nation have participated together to celebrate the occasion of Cinema Lovers’ Day. So, the tickets are priced at only 99 rupees across national cinema chains and selected multiplexes. This discounted ticket rate has turned out to be a boon for this film as it witnessed superb pre-sales for the opening day, standing just below a magnum opus like Fighter. Apart from the advance booking, the over-the-counter ticket sales have been really good so far, and on any given day, the start could have been in double digits, but since the ticket rates are very low, the opening day would be much below the 10 crore mark, but still, whatever the number comes, it will be surprising.

Talking about the positive points of the film, it has received favorable reviews so far from critics, with praise coming in for the direction, performances, and other technical departments. Apart from that, word-of-mouth among the viewers is also in support of the film, with many applauding the attempt of the makers to present a complicated matter like Article 370 in the simplest form. This positivity will, of course, work in favor of this Aditya Suhas Jambhale directorial in attracting major footfalls.

With all the debates and hot discussions that are going to take place from now onwards, the film will get a major boost. Also, it might even turn into a cinematic movement, something that was seen during The Kashmir Files. When it comes to competition, this Yami Gautam starrer has nothing to fear as it has negligible competition until Ajay Devgn-led Shaitaan arrives in theatres on 8th March.

There’s nothing much to offer for the audience in mass centers, but in urban centers, the film will definitely make its impact felt and even remain strong during weekdays.

Now, talking about the negative points, Article 370 comes off as an attempt to build momentum for the present political party in power. With elections being scheduled to take place within a couple of months, the timing of the release looks suspicious, and many might term the film as a ‘propaganda’ tool even without watching it.

Apart from that, the template of the film looks repetitive, and audiences have already seen films belonging to a similar zone (Uri: The Surgical Strike, The Kashmir Files, and The Kerala Story).

Article 370 Box Office Review: Final Verdict

On the whole, Article 370 is a winner in the making and is all set to surprise with its theatrical outcome. While Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter failed to fulfill mammoth expectations pinned on it, this Yami Gautam starrer is aiming to emerge as the first mega-hit from Bollywood in 2024.

In the lifetime run, Article 370 is expected to rake in 150-170 crores at the Indian box office.
