Did you know that Marvel once made Doctor Doom Iron Man? Yes, that’s not a fan theory. It happened in a Marvel comic series. Victor Von Doom, aka the notorious Doctor Doom, actually assumed Iron Man’s identity.
As long-time Marvel fans would know, Doctor Doom had spent decades fighting the Fantastic Four and other superheroes, and this time, he wanted to become one himself. But his history as a villain made it hard to convince the world to see him as a hero.
In the Infamous Iron Man comic series from 2016, Doctor Doom finally stepped into the world as none other than Tony Stark, and even came up with an Iron Man armor suit of his own to attempt redemption.

How Did Doctor Doom Become Iron Man?
After the 2015 Secret Wars comic storyline, Doom became the God Emperor and ultimately got defeated by Reed Richards. But unfortunately, at the end of the fight, he was left with a scarred face, and that experience made him reconsider life.
While Doom’s life was changing, Tony Stark’s life took a devastating turn during Civil War II, too. In a brutal conflict with Captain Marvel, Tony fell into a coma. This gave Doctor Doom the perfect chance to take his place.
In the #1 of Infamous Iron Man, we get to see Doom beginning his new mission. Not only did he rescue S.H.I.E.L.D director Maria Hill from Diablo, but he also went into Tony’s lab to inform the AI version of his intentions. Doom went on to ditch Tony’s red-and-gold suit and instead went for a silver suit of armor.
However, becoming Iron Man didn’t automatically make things easy for him because his earlier reputation followed him everywhere. And on top of that, Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, kept making things harder for him. Then there was the iconic girl duo of Pepper Potts and Riri Williams, who also questioned his good intentions.
But that didn’t stop Doctor Doom from pursuing his goal. He kept on fighting villains and tried to prove himself again and again. Doom was now trying to save the world rather than destroy it. But even his personal life crisis made it harder for him to achieve his goal. Later, when a woman claiming to be his long-dead mother, Cynthia Von Doom, returned, it raised even more questions about Doom’s intentions.
Even though Doom’s time as Iron Man didn’t last forever, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if Marvel movies plan to take inspiration from the comics and give us back our OG Iron Man, aka Robert Downey Jr.!
