In the infinity saga, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange played an important role. In Avengers: Endgame, with his one signal, Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man decided to snap his fingers to finish Thanos and his army. Doctor Strange had seen 14 million possibilities of the final battle and told us that Avengers win only in one. That one information proved significant.
It was in 2016 Marvel introduced us to Stephen Strange aka Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch is spectacular as Doctor Strange and we cannot imagine anyone else playing the character. But did you know Joaquin Phoenix was the first choice to play the sorcerer supreme? That’s our today’s Avengers: Endgame trivia #57.
In the Avengers: Endgame trivia today, we will tell you the reason why Joaquin Phoenix rejected the role of Doctor Strange. In an interaction with Cinemabland earlier, the Oscar winner said, “I think they make some great, fun movies. There’s nothing wrong. I’m not a f*cking, like, cinephile. I’m not a snob and I’m totally fine with. I enjoy those movies sometimes, and I think they keep the f*cking industry going in some ways, so I don’t have a problem with it at all. I’m trying to figure out how to say this most diplomatically, okay. I think everybody was really happy with how things turned out. All parties were satisfied.”
We would’ve loved to see Joaquin’s portrayal as Doctor Strange. But we can’t deny that Benedict is AMAZING too. Also, Phoenix went on to play Joker in Todd Phillips’ film last year. He gave a performance that managed to send chills down the spine. Joker went on to received a lot of praises and the actor also won an Oscar for the same this year.
Meanwhile, after Avengers: Endgame, Benedict will return as Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film also stars Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.
