The Odyssey Crosses $1B In Overseas!
The Matt Damon-starrer crossed the $1 billion mark on Thursday, kicking off its 8th weekend. It has become the 17th Hollywood film to cross the mark and the first R-rated film to do so. The film has crossed $1.01 billion across 82 international markets. The film saw a late release in China, nearly a month after its worldwide release on July 17. Meanwhile, the film is yet to be released in Japan. The film will open in the Asian country on September 11.
According to trade analyst Luiz Fernando, The Odyssey has earned $1.01 billion after 49 days at the box office. With Japan’s release, the film’s international market is set for a boost in the coming days. In the US market, the film has also reclaimed its #1 spot, overthrowing Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Globally, the film is all set to cross the $1.6 billion mark today. Next week, it will surpass Jurassic World’s $1.67 billion to become Universal’s highest-grossing film ever. The Odyssey is currently eyeing a $1.75-$1.9 billion global run.

The Odyssey Completes 49-Day Streak, Beats Michael
At the US box office, The Odyssey has completed 49 straight days of earning over $1 million each day. With this, it has surpassed Michael’s 48-day streak and The Passion of the Christ. It is the 5th-longest streak post-COVID at the US box office.
Meanwhile, it has collected a cume of $571.7 million in the US. In its eighth weekend, the film will surpass the domestic box office of The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($574.9 million) and become Universal’s second-highest-grossing film ever domestically. Currently, The Odyssey is expected to wrap its domestic run with a cume of $610-$630 million.
