The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reaping is scheduled to be released around Thanksgiving this year, and the early box office projections for its debut are already making news. It is eyeing a modest opening weekend at the North American box office, per early estimates. But things can change during the actual time. Keep scrolling for the deets.

It is the sequel to The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and the prequel to 2012’s The Hunger Games. For the unversed, it is the sixth film in the franchise, which has an ensemble cast comprising Joseph Zada, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’s long-range domestic projection

For the record, its predecessor, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, was released in 2023 and collected $44.6 million at the North American box office in its opening weekend. It was the lowest opening in the franchise. However, based on the latest report from Box Office Pro, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is tracking to earn more than its predecessor, but it will not exceed the Jennifer Lawrence starrer films’ openings.

The film is currently tracking to earn between $55 million and $65 million in its opening weekend. If it falls within this range, the upcoming Ralph Fiennes starrer will have the second-lowest opening weekend in the franchise’s North American box office history.
